With such little separating the top teams at this point in the season, Academy of Notre Dame de Namur’s tie last week against The Hill School, opened up room for a new #1. While we could have gone with any of a handful of teams, when we broke it down and analyzed each team’s resume, Eastern Regional (Voorhees, NJ) stuck out as the most deserving and most proven squad right now. The Vikings sit at 10-0-0, 5-0-0 in Olympic-American Conference play, with five convincing wins over teams currently ranked in our New Jersey Region Top 20: 5-3 over #2 Oak Knoll School (#12 in National Top 25), 6-1 over #5 Shawnee, 6-0 over #9 Bishop Eustace Prep, 6-1 over #10 Camden Catholic, and 9-0 over #11 Madison. Out of their roster of 24 players, 14 are ranked in our Player Rankings, including the state’s leading scorer and point leader, Top 10 player and New Jersey Preseason State Player of the Year junior Kara Heck (Boston College) who has put away 23 goals and added 11 assists through 10 games for 57 points. Junior Amanda Middleman (16 goals, 9 assists) and Top 3 freshman Ryleigh Heck (13 goals, 4 assists) have been major contributors on offense as well. Danyle Heilig’s squad will get their first out-of-state test this weekend when they play at Downingtown West (Downingtown, PA), currently 5-2-0 and ranked #19 in the Pennsylvania Region.

A note on our rankings: Weekly we track over 150 team’s schedules and results, which is a daunting task given the inconsistent availability of up-to-date High School field hockey information online across the country. While we try our best to look out for new teams on the rise or to add, logistically we heavily rely on how our previously ranked teams are doing, and we look for any teams who beat, tie or challenge one of them. If you think we are missing a team, please let us know! We ALWAYS welcome productive feedback and want you to let us know if we are missing a team or if you think a team should be ranked higher or lower. Email us: firstname.lastname@example.org
