Last Thursday we spent the afternoon enjoying the competition and talent at the 4th annual Under Armour Select Game at Boston College’s field hockey complex. The game’s participants were selected (via a “Golden Ticket”) from the Northeast College Connection Showcase at UMASS (View Selections) and the Mid-Atlantic College Connection Showcase at Lehigh University (View Selections). A total of 65 athletes from 12 states (CA, CT, IL, KY, MA, MD, NH, NJ, PA, RI, VA, WI) played in front of 20+ college coaches in this years games. The talent level was exceptional and well exceeded any of the previous year’s games we attended. 15+ of the competing 2020s, 2021s and 2022s were already ranked in MAX Field Hockey’s Players Rankings and another dozen or so caught our eye and will certainly be included in the next round!
Game #1 was a showdown between USA and Canada and featured the younger classes. Game #2 was a showdown between England and Germany and featured 2020s and 2021s. Each game was comprised of three 30 minute periods with a Goalie Showcase in between. The games were competitive and well-matched, with back and forth action on a beautiful day on the water-based turf. Team Canada squeezed out a last minute 4-3 victory over Team USA in the first game and Team Germany claimed the second game with a 7-5 win over England.
Upon the conclusion of each game, an Awards Ceremony was held in which the Players of the Match were recognized. Lauren Masters (2023, Pittstown, NJ) and Lucy Adams (2022, Andover, MA) were selected as Players of the Match for Game #1. Grace Hecht (2021, Wauwatosa, WI) and Alana King (2020, Granby, CT) were selected as Players of the Match for Game #2.
Once again, from the complete Under Armour uniforms each player was fitted in, to the game day fuel provided by Gatorade, College Connection didn’t leave any detail out. Another first class event.
