The 2018 High School Field Hockey season is underway! With the extreme heat and storms that have hit different regions, numerous early play-days and match-ups were forced to be cancelled or postponed, minimizing the number of tests and results we have for many teams. Week #1 Rankings take into consideration games played through Sunday, September 9th. We also did our best to learn of and factor in scrimmages and unofficial playday results.
One match-up that was not effected was the late August knock off of the reigning National Champs and #1 ranked Penn Manor Comets by #10 Academy of Notre Dame de Namur. Senior Lauren Curran’s (Boston College) two goals were the difference in Notre Dame’s 3-2 victory. With the big-time win and another one last night over another nationally ranked squad Downingtown West, Notre Dame moves up to the #1 spot in the Pennsylvania Region and National Top 25.
We got to see lots of great West/Mid-West regional match-ups at the 2018 Gateway Classic Tournament in Saint Louis, Missouri over Labor Day Weekend. Teams from seven different states (IL, KY, MI, MO, OK, TX, WI), including many of our Preseason Ranked squads, met in a pool play format, which provided some great on-field match-ups across states and the West/Mid-West Region. A note on our rankings: Weekly we track over 150 team’s schedules and results, which is a daunting task given the inconsistent availability of up-to-date High School field hockey information online across the country. While we try our best to look out for new teams on the rise or to add, logistically we heavily rely on how our previously ranked teams are doing, and we look for any teams who beat, tie or challenge one of them. If you think we are missing a team, please let us know! We ALWAYS welcome productive feedback and want you to let us know if we are missing a team or if you think a team should be ranked higher or lower. Email us: firstname.lastname@example.org
